As of August 2017 there are only 9 large and medium palm oil mills in Ghana. However, there are more than 100 small-scale palm oil mills across the country which few of them are yet to be up-graded to medium-scale.
How is Ghana re-launching its palm oil sector?
Currently Ghana has unmet demand of over 100,000 tons of palm oil annually which is imported. In view of this situation, the government has put in place several interventions to support of Development Partners to re-launch and develop the palm oil sector to boost productivity and increase production.

How is crude palm oil stored in a tricanter?
Before the crude palm oil (CPO) is ready for storage in the clear oil tank and further processing in the refinery and fractionation plant (see ‘Investment programme’), it passes through a vacuum dryer to reduce the moisture content in order to slow down hydrolysis and oxidation. The bottom phase is the sludge which goes into the tricanter.
